چکیده

This position paper addresses the issue of supporting quality-of-service (QoS) parameters in distributed publish-subscribe systems. It advocates that QoS parameters should be handled using the same constructs as other information regarding events, such as their type or content. At the same time, we claim that the use of a consistent set of mechanisms should not preclude to decouple the specification of QoS properties from the specification of type, subject or content-based constraints. We also advocate that QoS parameters should not be embedded on the type or content of the events. We show that some QoS parameters can only be computed in run-time, as they depend on dynamic aspects such as the location of the participants and the system load. The paper proposes a model that supports the decoupling of QoS characterization from the event characterization while, at the same time, offers an uniform treatment of both aspects.

A Publish/Subscribe Model for QoS-aware Service Provisioning and Selection

With the growing adoption of the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) in the industry and the wide deployment of Web services, users are increasingly requiring services that are capable of meeting their quality-of-service (QoS) requirements. In this paper, we propose a novel framework for QoS-aware Web service provisioning, which relies on QoS brokers, to mediate between clients and service prov...

QoS-Aware Publish-Subscribe Service for Real-Time Data Acquisition

Many complex distributed real-time applications, monitoring and controlling the external environment, require sophisticated processing and sharing of an extensive amount of data under critical timing constraints. In this paper, we present a comprehensive overview of the Data Distribution Service standard (DDS) and describe its QoS features for developing real-time applications. An overview abou...

PS-QUASAR: A publish/subscribe QoS aware middleware for Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks

It has been more than 30 years since the first research into Wireless Sensor and Actor Networks appeared. However, WSANs are still not a ubiquitous technology due to several factors which include a lack of Quality of Service (QoS) support or the absence of high level programming models. New applications with heterogeneous QoS requirements where WSANs can be successfully applied, such as Critica...

La Niña: An Evolutionary Noise-aware Optimization Framework in Self-Adaptive Publish/Subscribe Middleware for Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: This paper focuses on three key issues that the publish/subscribe (pub/sub) communication scheme faces for event routing in wireless sensor networks (WSNs): (1) balancing tradeoffs among conflicting performance objectives such as data yield, data fidelity and power efficiency; (2) satisfying quality of service (QoS) requirements such as latency; and (3) considering noise in evaluating...
